Catholic Catechism: What is God?

When I was a little girl I cherished a small Hallmark book called God is Everywhere. Each page demonstrated where God can be found, and how He shows Himself through others that we meet in unexpected ways. Today I not only reflect on where God is, but what God is.

God is omnipotent, meaning infinite and unlimited in authority. He is also almighty, meaning influential and extremely strong. God is mysterious revealing that His foolishness is more powerful and thoughtful than our greatest knowledge or wisdom.

But most of all God is merciful and loving, offering the gift of eternal redemption through the suffering and resurrection of His Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ! The Catholic Catechism rightly teaches that all things are possible with God. He alone does great things for us, and it is through our response to His love (like the Virgin Mary) that we acknowledge and accept the gifts of creation, redemption, and sanctification by His grace.
