by M. J. Joachim
Regina Caeli is a very old, Catholic Latin hymn. It is sung during Easter Season, from Holy Saturday through Pentecost (the birthday of the Church). It is also sung or recited during particular prayers, Liturgy of the Hours and Vespers. Meaning Queen of Heaven, it is a Marian song of praise for Mary’s love and willingness to embrace her role as Mother of our Lord. The words, while making specific reference to Mary, also direct themselves to Jesus and His Resurrection, proclaiming joy and thanksgiving for the promise of everlasting life with Him in Heaven someday.
